FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Each patient and each condition will be completely different but what we know now is that in general orthopedic conditions such as muscle sprains can take up to 3-6 weeks to heal and bone fractures can take 8-12 weeks. Again, these are general guidelines to anticipate length of treatments.
Something that really accelerates healing is you willing and desire to meet your goals.
One example of doing that is committing to your home exercise program and that makes a big different in physical rehabilitation medicine.
Physical therapist are specialist in the musculoskeletal system and the restoring normal movement and functional mobility where as the chiropractors are specialist in joints and restoring body alignment. They are both important so I may refer a patient to a chiropractor if I don't see further improvement with my interventions as I would expect a chiropractor referring a patient to our clinic to improve muscle balance and strength after any slip and fall injury or motor vehicle accident.
All individuals with orthopedic or neurological conditions from young to adults or surgical patients can benefit from physical therapy. They can benefit from physical therapy to restore normal movement or to prevent athletic injuries. We also work closely with patients who have had surgeries after they get discharged from the hospital as well as same day surgical procedures as long as they have clearance to begin physical rehabilitation medicine.
Your specialist will schedule a follow up visit with you at their clinic within about 1 week after any surgical procedure and give you a script for PT evaluation and treatment of you are a candidate for rehabilitation.
The physical therapist has the responsibility to inform your primary medical doctor within 30 days after the date of the initial PT evaluation and treatment of any functional limitation or pain. More importantly, the physical therapist can contact your primary care doctor or any other health care professional of record if you as an individual has failed to make reasonable progress in physical therapy.
In the event that there is no identified licensed health care professional of record, recommend that the individual consult with a licensed health care professional of the individual's choice.
A physical therapist shall refer a patient to a health care professional licensed to practice dentistry podiatry or medicine and surgery in this State or other appropriate licensed health care professional When the physical therapist doing the examination evaluation or intervention has reason to believe that physical therapy is contraindicated or symptoms or conditions are present that require services outside the scope of practice of the physical therapist.
Our clinic provides mainly orthopedic physical therapy Interventions
Including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and pain modalities in the form of ultrasound and electrical stimulation as well as cold packs and moist heat packs.
Other interventions such as neuromuscular rehabilitation and gait training are used for individuals with neurological conditions to regain mobility, normal movement control for transfers or walking and balance exercises to prevent falls.
At the end of your rehabilitation experience and discharge session, we make sure you have enough tools to be independent with your home exercise program.
